Put Them Together! How Many in All?
🏠 A game for home: Make two piles of spoons, put them together and count them all.
Addition with objects: putting two groups together and counting how many there are in all, first with things, then with fingers and the five frame, and finally with the + and = signs.
Putting together is the first operation kids understand with their hands. Once they see that 2 and 3 together make 5, the + sign is just another way to write it.
