Grown-up sheet · Level 2 · Island of Ten · Big game

How to use it

  1. Watch the video together with your child. Don't give them the answer. If they stay quiet, wait for Pipo to say it.
  2. For each challenge, mark just one box:
    • ✓ if they answered on their own, before the circle emptied.
    • ½ if they answered late or with help.
    • ✗ if they didn't answer or got it wrong.
  3. Pause the video to write things down if you need to.
  4. At the end, look at the "What to review?" table.

What to watch for on this island:

  • Counting past five: see whether they touch or point to each object only once. With 8 to 10 objects, it's normal to skip one or count one twice.
  • The ten-frame: ideally they see "five on top and two more" without counting from one. If they count everything one by one and get it right, still mark ✓, but make a note: they aren't using the shortcut of five yet.
  • Fingers: to show seven, ideally they hold up one whole hand and two more fingers. Raising them one by one is fine too.

What to review?

Rule: a block is mastered if the child got at least one challenge with ✓ and none with ✗.

· Six and seven 1–2 Stop 1: "Learn" and "Play more" (M8-S1-A, M8-S1-J2)
· Eight, nine, and ten 3–4 Stop 2: "Learn" and "Play more" (M8-S2-A, M8-S2-J2)
· The ten-frame 5–6 Stop 3: "Learn" and "Play" (M8-S3-A, M8-S3-J1)
· The number line 7–8 Stop 4: "Learn" and "Play more" (M8-S4-A, M8-S4-J2)
· Pipo made a mistake! 9–10 Stop 5: "Learn" and "Play" (M8-S5-A, M8-S5-J1)

What to do next:

  • Everything mastered: they can move on to the next island, Comparing Numbers.
  • One block not mastered: rewatch those videos for 2 or 3 days.
  • Two or more blocks not mastered: it's worth spending one more week on this island.

Common mistakes at this age:

  • Losing count with lots of objects (challenges 3 and 4). With real objects, have them move each one to the side as they count it.
  • Saying the numbers without knowing how many there are. If they count "one, two… nine" and then can't answer "how many are there?", they haven't yet connected the last number with the amount. Ask again when they finish counting: "So, how many are there?"
  • Counting backward (challenge 8). It's harder than counting forward; marking ½ is normal. Play rocket ship: "ten, nine, eight… blast off!"
  • Not noticing the missing number (challenges 9 and 10). Read the line together out loud, pointing to each number: you can hear the mistake.
