Grown-up sheet · Number Island · Big game

How to use it

  1. Watch the video together with your child. Don't give them the answer. If they stay quiet, wait for Pipo to say it.
  2. For each challenge, mark just one box:
    • ✓ if they answered on their own, before the circle emptied.
    • ½ if they answered late or with help.
    • ✗ if they didn't answer or got it wrong.
  3. Pause the video to write things down if you need to.
  4. At the end, look at the "What to review?" table.

When they count, pay attention to how they count, not just the final number:

  • Do they point to each object only once?
  • Do they say one number per object?
  • Do they know that the last number they said is "how many there are"?

If they counted correctly but couldn't say how many there are at the end, mark ½.

What to review?

Rule: a block is mastered if the child got most of its challenges with ✓ and none with ✗.

· Counting to 3 1–2 Stop 1: "Play" (M3-S1-J1) and lesson 1
· Counting to 5 3–4 Stop 2: "Play" (M3-S2-J1) and lesson 2
· Numbers in order 5–7 Stop 3: "Play" and "Play more" (M3-S3-J1, M3-S3-J2) and lesson 3
· More and fewer 8–9 Stop 4: "Play" (M3-S4-J1) and lesson 4
· Find the mistake 10–12 Stop 5: "Play" (M3-S5-J1) and lesson 5

What to do next:

  • Everything mastered: on to Sorting Island.
  • One block not mastered: rewatch those videos for 2 or 3 days while the next island begins.
  • Two or more blocks not mastered: it's worth spending one more week on this island.

Common mistakes at this age:

  • Reciting without pointing. They say "one, two, three, four" quickly, but skip objects or count the same one twice. At home, count things that can be moved: the child moves each object from one side to the other while saying the number.
  • Counting again when you ask "how many are there?" They haven't yet connected the last number with the amount. After they count, ask, "So how many are there?" and celebrate when they repeat the last number.

This island comes back later: Island 5 ("Careful Counting") goes deeper into counting. There's no need to master everything now.
