Grown-up sheet · Sorting Island · Mid-year big game

This big game is special. It has 6 challenges from Sorting Island and 2 challenges from each earlier island (patterns, sizes, and numbers). It helps you see what stuck from the whole first half of the year.

How to use it

  1. Watch the video together with your child. Don't give them the answer. If they stay quiet, wait for Pipo to say it.
  2. For each challenge, mark just one box:
    • ✓ if they answered on their own, before the circle emptied.
    • ½ if they answered late or with help.
    • ✗ if they didn't answer or got it wrong.
  3. Pause the video to write things down if you need to.
  4. At the end, look at the "What to review?" table.

If you can, ask "Why?" after the sorting challenges. A child who says "because it's red" or "because it's a star" understands the rule, even if they pointed to the wrong one.

What to review?

Rule: a block is mastered if the child got most of its challenges with ✓ and none with ✗.

· Groups by color and by shape 2–3 Stop 3: "Play more" (M4-S3-J2), which mixes both rules
· The one that doesn't belong 4–5 Stop 4: "Play" (M4-S4-J1)
· Patterns 7–8 Island 1: "Island mix" (M1-S5-M)
· Sizes 9–10 Island 2: "Island mix" (M2-S5-M)
· Numbers 11–12 Island 3: "Island mix" (M3-S5-M)

What to do next:

  • Everything mastered: on to Island 5 ("Careful Counting").
  • One block not mastered: rewatch those videos for 2 or 3 days while the next island begins.
  • Two or more blocks not mastered: it's worth spending a week reviewing with the "Island mix" videos for the blocks that were missed.
  • Numbers not mastered: don't worry too much. Island 5 starts counting over from the beginning, more slowly.

Common mistake at this age: switching rules halfway through. They start grouping by color and suddenly add a piece because it's "also a star." At home, before sorting, decide on the rule together out loud: "Today we're sorting by color only."
