How to use it

  1. Watch the video together with your child. Don't give them the answer. If they stay quiet, wait for Pipo to say it.
  2. For each challenge, mark just one box:
    • ✓ if they answered on their own, before the circle emptied.
    • ½ if they answered late or with help.
    • ✗ if they didn't answer or got it wrong.
  3. Pause the video to write things down if you need to.
  4. At the end, look at the "What to review?" table.

What to watch for on this island:

  • Counting on from ten: with the two frames, ideally they say "ten… eleven, twelve, thirteen" without counting the full frame one by one. If they count from one and get there, that's fine, but they don't see the ten yet.
  • The names from 11 to 15: eleven and twelve don't sound like "ten and…" at all, and thirteen and fifteen are a bit irregular. It's normal to mix these up more than 16 to 19.
  • Reading the whole number: some children read 14 as "one, four" or mix it up with 41. Notice whether they look at both digits.

What to review?

Rule: a block is mastered if the child got at least one challenge with ✓ and none with ✗.

· Ten and some more 1–2 Stop 1: "Learn" (M18-S1-A) and stop 2: "Learn" and "Play" (M18-S2-A, M18-S2-J1)
· Numbers and amounts 3–4 "Play" and "Play more" from stop 1 (M18-S1-J1, M18-S1-J2) and "Play more" from stop 2 (M18-S2-J2)
· Comparing 5–6 Stop 3: "Learn", "Play", and "Play more" (M18-S3-A, M18-S3-J1, M18-S3-J2)
· The number line 7–8 Stop 4: "Learn" and "Play" (M18-S4-A, M18-S4-J1)
· Pipo made a mistake! 9–10 Stop 5: "Learn" and "Play" (M18-S5-A, M18-S5-J1)

What to do next:

  • Everything mastered: move on to the next island (counting far).
  • One block not mastered: rewatch those videos for 2 or 3 days.
  • Two or more blocks not mastered: it's worth spending one more week on this island.

Common mistakes at this age:

  • Counting the full frame one by one (challenges 1 and 2): it isn't a mistake, but it takes longer. Play with ten spoons in a row: "This is ten, no counting." Then add two: "ten… eleven, twelve."
  • Thinking the bigger number is the one farthest right or the tallest one (challenges 5 and 6): point to the frames for each number and compare the bottom row.
  • Saying "ten and three" instead of "thirteen" (challenge 1): that's fine as a first step. Say together "ten and three is called thirteen."
