Grown-up sheet · Level 3 · Hide-and-Seek Island · Big game
This is the third island of Level 3: parts of a number (the pairs that make 5 and 10) and adding and subtracting up to 10.
How to use it
- Watch the video together with your child. Don't give them the answer. If they stay quiet, wait for Pipo to say it.
- For each challenge, mark just one box:
- ✓ if they answered on their own, before the circle emptied.
- ½ if they answered late or with help.
- ✗ if they didn't answer or got it wrong.
- Pause the video to write things down if you need to.
- At the end, look at the "What to review?" table.
What to watch for on this island:
- Knowing the pairs or counting them: at first they count on their fingers to find how many are missing. The goal is for the pairs that make 5 (and later those that make 10) to come out without counting. Note which ones they know by heart.
- Starting with the bigger number: for "2 + 7", ideally they say "seven… eight, nine". Starting with the 2 is still fine, just slower.
- The ten-frame: if they see 6 as "five and one" without counting, they're already using the frame.

What to do next:
- Everything mastered: move on to the next island (numbers up to 20).
- One block not mastered: rewatch those videos for 2 or 3 days.
- Two or more blocks not mastered: it's worth spending one more week on this island. The numbers up to 20 build on 10.
Common mistakes at this age:
- Saying how many can be seen instead of how many are missing (challenges 1 to 4): they say "two" instead of "three". Play with five spoons and a cloth: "How many are there in all? How many do you see? And how many are hiding?"
- Saying the total (challenge 6): they answer "ten". Read it together: "seven plus… something… equals ten".
- Counting from one in bigger sums (challenge 7): it isn't a mistake, but it takes longer and leads to more errors. Practice "put the seven in your head and keep going on your fingers".
