How to use it

  1. Watch the video together with your child. Don't give them the answer. If they stay quiet, wait for Pipo to say it.
  2. For each challenge, mark just one box:
    • ✓ if they answered on their own, before the circle emptied.
    • ½ if they answered late or with help.
    • ✗ if they didn't answer or got it wrong.
  3. Pause the video to write things down if you need to.
  4. At the end, look at the "What to review?" table.

What to watch for in this level:

  • Putting together and taking away: notice whether they count on from the bigger number instead of starting from one.
  • Parts of a number: "How many more make ten?" is the foundation of first-grade addition and subtraction.
  • Logic: in guess who, they should use both clues, not just the first one.

What to review?

Rule: an island is mastered if its two challenges have at least one ✓ and no ✗. The two "Pipo made a mistake!" challenges don't count as an island: if they miss them, review stop 5 of the island on that topic.

· 15. Putting together 1–2 The island's Mix (M15-S5-M) and its Big game (M15-S5-E)
· 16. Taking away 3–4 The island's Mix (M16-S5-M) and its Big game (M16-S5-E)
· 17. Parts of a number 5–6 The island's Mix (M17-S5-M) and its Big game (M17-S5-E)
· 18. Up to 20 7–8 The island's Mix (M18-S5-M) and its Big game (M18-S5-E)
· 19. Counting far 9–10 The island's Mix (M19-S5-M) and its Big game (M19-S5-E)
· 20. Measuring and time 11–12 The island's Mix (M20-S5-M) and its Big game (M20-S5-E)
· 21. Logic and paths 13–14 The island's Mix (M21-S5-M) and its Big game (M21-S5-E)

What to do next:

  • Six or seven islands mastered: ready for first grade!
  • Four or five: one week of review with the islands not yet mastered, then watch the part that had mistakes again.
  • Three or fewer: it's best to repeat those whole islands before moving up a level. It isn't a failure: every child has their own pace.
